I admit that I have not been to the establishment that caught my attention. With a familiar name on the shop front, I enjoyed the reflection triggered by the men inside getting a cut, having a shave, and even those in the back who were treating themselves to a pedicure. There was a waiting list of men in seats waiting for their periodic cleanup. On a busy night, the endorsement for a good day to be examined, and with a trim to follow, was on full display. As odd as it may seem given its location and extremely low price point, it is on my list of services that I want to try and experience.
Life’s whispers were on overdrive. The takeaways of the evening are sharing my day ahead.
Life comes with both good and bad days, as well as busy and slow ones. A wise man’s reminder echoes as a whisper in the silent dawn. “On a good day, enjoy yourself; On a bad day, examine your conscience. God arranges for both kinds of days so that we won’t take anything for granted. Stay in touch with both sides.” (Ecclesiastes 7.14). I am reminded to seize the day by leveraging the past through learning and commitment, while stepping into the moment that I have. Each is a unique opportunity to care enough to make a difference, for myself and others.
Life is not a solo event; others are involved. I do not cut my hair. I enjoy getting a shave as well as shaving. I can trim my nails; however, a pedicure and manicure are fantastic options. The illustrations direct me to a reminder that I carry with me. I can try to walk on my own, yet I walk faster and stronger when I walk with Divinity. I can eat alone, yet breaking bread with others makes life so much greater. As I seek to be part of a community, I find my invitation to contribute to the greater story that you and I are a part of.
