I walked into the lobby expecting a predictable, commercially tailored experience. I could feel the scene before I could see anything. I felt emotionally as if I had found refuge from the hot sun. Every sense was touched in a good way. Peace and harmony started the gentle wave of acceptance and belonging. Unknowingly, I found myself holding an open invitation for more.
People, objects, and ideas placed in one’s life matter. Each is a gateway to a place with more than we imagine. They are symbols with meaning. Each is a touchpoint for the heart, mind, and soul. The history of how design and content are gateways transcends the ages. A writer left us with a description of a Divine meeting place; “A large outer tent was set up. The lampstand, the table, and ‘the bread of presence’ were placed in it. This was called ‘the Holy Place.’” (Hebrews 9.2)
People, objects, and ideas placed in one’s life are valuable when embraced. The value within me is proportional to how I put it to use. In taking the compassion gifted to me, I have a resource that is priceless to someone in need. As I consume the kindness I have been shown, I discover I am richer in ways I did not anticipate. The outcome creates new value, which grows as I add another layer to the pearl through my words and actions. What is visually appealing at the start begins and continues to grow into items of value that cannot be stolen or destroyed with my use.
People, objects, and ideas placed in one’s life are invitations to live life to the maximum. My response will determine the result. What follows is wide open. There are no scripts. I have within me the freedom to do whatever I choose. It is an incredible gift that took me years to understand and even longer to embrace.
The welcoming flowers and stage introduced me to the moment and today. I am excited, challenged, energised, and committed. I can make a difference with everything in the room.
