There is a lot of art on the walls of public spaces that goes unnoticed. I suspect that someone put time into choosing each piece for its specific location. As I watched people passing by two small pieces on the wall without even a hint of consideration, I was not sure if the artist or the artwork was being served.
Given I had a few minutes of waiting, I took time to simply stand in silence and let the piece speak to me. I found myself caught in multiple stories, different perspectives, and a few reflections within the reflection. There is a lot going on. In many ways, the artist left me with an image that speaks to the day ahead, chaotic busyness.
It is easy to get lost. Life is complex, messy, and often very emotional. Knowing how to hold onto the heart of one’s values and priorities can be difficult. It seems that this artist painted a day that could be anyone this week. Yet, Paul reminds me that life and holding on to Divinity need not be as complex or problematic as I often make it. “So what exactly was Moses saying? The word that saves is right here, as near as the tongue in your mouth, as close as the heart in your chest.” (Romans 10.8)
If in doubt, believe that love, kindness, and care are part of every solution. If they are missing, I first slow down to reconsider my next step. When they are present, good things follow close behind.
If in pain, act in the way you would want to be treated. There is far too much pain in this world, so there is no point in adding to it. Many are suffering. As I choose to be part of the healing and restoration of those around me, I discover that my heart and soul are healed in the process.
Being a Divine collaborator means one has joined a cause worthy of the gods. Life is found in personal relationships and community. My gift is my presence and heart.
