As I continue to analyze and write start-up support documents, there has been a theme to the conversations behind them. It centers on fundamentals. The recurring message is clear – remember them. I wish I could say that the reminders, from casual conversations to serious reviews, from random encounters to planned reviews, caught me by surprise. A long conversation yesterday reminded me of truths I have long held close to my heart. While I know them, it took another to give them fresh life.
We are facing economic headwinds and uncertainties. It is hard to know what is going to happen next. I woke this morning to the sound of thunder. As I sit in the storm’s wind whistling through the apartment, I can sense the moisture on the wind. The dark gray clouds and sheets of rain are moving north to south. You can see the water dripping from the rails and commuting car lights reflecting off Tanglin Road. As I stay out of the elements, it is a time of reflection and remembering.
Today is an opportunity to connect the dots. We can take the values and priorities in our lives and give them life. We can remember the advice of yesterday; “Think straight. Awaken to the holiness of life. No more playing fast and loose with resurrection facts. Ignorance of God is a luxury you can’t afford in times like these. Aren’t you embarrassed that you’ve let this kind of thing go on as long as you have?” (1 Corinthians 15.34) We can remember and do something with what we already know.
As the rain’s intensity increases, I realize that life is often difficult. Uncertainties appear overwhelming. Doubts continue to grow. Nothing seems to be going our way. All this is part of our reality. The key word is part, there is more. How the more will look will be determined by your actions and mine. We have choices to make – it is our opportunity to do something with what we know. Today’s storms are not the only answers – we have roles to play.
