Possibilities

From a distance it is hard to know what is possible.  Without experience, knowledge, and history how does one know what can be accomplished?  Is one willing to explore the unknown?  Can one jump into the uncertainty of the possibility?  Everything could and can be possible.  I know in my head this is true but, and it seems one can always conjure a “but”, there is reality.  Possibilities exist when I control the alternatives.  Options are available when we have explored all the possible paths.  Everything can be achieved when one pursues one’s ideals. 
 
And yet there is so much beyond your and my control, we haven’t explored all the paths, and much of the time reality overwhelms even the strongest.  This is the world in which we find ourselves.  Life is difficult.  Problems are incredibly complex and at times wicked.  Pain, death, and the unexpected are far more normal than anyone is willing to acknowledge.  This is the life in which we live!  Possibilities need to address the evil we find ourselves in.  Options must confront the bullies which think they have found safe haven.  Alternatives have been outlined and laid out.  Or do they?
 
What if we take a different approach?  We can model idealism so others can see an alternative model in action.  We can stand up for the weak, even though we cannot stand up for everyone who needs our help.  We can reach for the stars, because the Spirit reaches up with us.
 
I believe everything is possible if one believes.  It is the belief that makes the impossible real.  There will be a world where “Cow and bear will graze the same pasture, their calves and cubs grow up together, and the lion eat straw like the ox.” (Isaiah 11.7)  I know because of the gifts of others.  Through them I have experienced the first touch, taste, and step in this new world. 
 
It doesn’t end there.  The possibilities are endless.  They begin with you and me.  Today, through our touch, action, and choice, others can experience possibilities as well.
