Exploring potential opportunities is fun, although a recent call at 6 am is not my normal starting point. As I think about a recent conversation, I am struck by the lingering sense of possibilities. Against a background a blunt candor, I found myself reveling in the sense of what could be. Before this chat, others had painted a rosy picture. I knew that reality always comes with challenges and issues. I felt hope’s embrace when the conversation included these elements.
It is not always easy to see the possibilities. The process of exploring and sharing ideas reminded me of three mantras that continue to help shape my path.
Honest conversations are a key to having a foundation for action. One cannot stand without the basics in place. Honest conversations are critical, however they require mutual trust. Trust is a grounded and emotional decision. When truth is on the table, anything is possible.
Getting a destination is always easier when others are on your side. Seeking help is the start of something more. Letting others into your story and being willing to walk in the story of the other works. Everyone can win.
Others have something you and I do not. When one starts with the premise that others have something to offer, it is a tangible affirmation of the value the other has to offer. It is a critical element if one wants to have trust, honesty, and collaboration.
As I write these words, I see the mantras impact my ongoing dialogue. I see God differently. God is an important element in my life that lifts me higher. I also can help can as Divine eyes, ears, and hands. It takes the idea of that “God’s love is meteoric, his loyalty astronomic,” (Psalm 36.5) and potentially makes it real.
I am excited about the opportunities – with God and others. There is room for everyone to do something. Together we can make a difference. This is something I want to be a part of. It does not depend solely on others; I can take a few steps.
