“I look to you, heaven-dwelling God, look up to you for help.” Psalm 123.1
Just as life smoothes out, when problems appear fixed and our relationships with friends and family are beginning to smooth out, we hit a pothole! Yesterday I hit a big one. I do not think I ever appreciated just how difficult it is to keep my forward motion going when I hit a pothole of old-issues unexpectedly. My particular situation is far from unique and I see amble evidence that we all hitting them. Old bosses wander into our lives to pick at wounds only recently healed. Our life partner finds it difficult to let go of our old disasters. Problem relationships keep creeping back into a cycle of destruction. Our soul keeps taking hits when we least expect it!
Cliches holding God responsible are just wisps of human conjecture. I cannot find the evidence anywhere where God gives us a warranty for smooth sailing. I cannot even find the evidence where God takes responsibility for the events in our lives!
But, and it is a BIG but… God does promise to be there when we need help. He did say He would send the Spirit to be our comforter. He responded to an accusation by clarifying that He pays attention to the minutest details of our lives including the number of hairs on our head. God continues to demonstrate in real and tangible ways how He cares. I remember pictures hung straight first time for an art show when time had gone, God in action! God keeps providing parking spaces for me where there should be none! The comfort God provides when I am in period of stress far exceeds anything I possibly deserve. God delivers knowing I will fail again.
I wake up every day knowing problems will come…and God will be there!
God gives every individual unconditional, unending, everlasting wells of grace, love, and acceptance to draw from. He has one with your name on it – watched and guarded by your personal sentry. Look, God is ready to help!
