As I walked through the hall before the conference was open, I enjoyed imagining each small business or start-up based on the signage and logo. One logo held my attention for longer than the others. There was an obvious connection to the land. I could see there was a harvest. The effort involved, personally and with the help of a tractor, was clear. I still do not know what business was being represented. I do appreciate the attention to the potential role I will play in life today.
Just like a crop, we will not see a better future without serious labour. The role of farmers, the support infrastructure, and the effort required to supply the food on your table and mine are often forgotten. Along with our food, a better tomorrow will require serious dedication that endures. There is so much at stake, well beyond you and me. What is on the table is the future for my children and grandchildren,
We are called to care. We are invited to make a difference with the aspiration of a better future for all. I am reminded that no individual, family, or community can be left behind. Life reminds me that this is my purpose. The mission is to address the challenges we face now with a goal of systemically moving towards a world where individuals are unconditionally embraced, accepted, and supported without hesitation. An author left a reminder of our potential. “You [Divinity] made them not quite as high as angels, bright with Eden’s dawn light;” (Hebrews 2.7)
The story is most often revealed in the little things of life. I was amazed to see a courteous response to rude behaviour on the road. I was touched by the care and compassion shown by an individual who was also facing painful chaos and uncertainty. Hope is created with kind words. Strength grows when someone cares enough to reach out and be with me. There is much to play for. I am reminded that I have a role. It is an open invitation I rediscover every day.
