The sun is slowly, resolutely getting today started. I love how the gentle lightness breaking through the dark evolves into a hint of yellow followed by increasingly golden colours. Summer is on the way. I believe today will clearly reveal the march underway to that end. Even in the morning shadows, the heat has overwhelmed the normal places of refuge.
Preparation to deal with this is visible. The awnings are clean. The damage left by the winter storms has been repaired. Underground parking lots are filling up earlier than just a few weeks ago. Air conditioning systems are being checked and topped up.
We seem to be at a doorway to an endless summer. Everything is prepared. My only question of reservation lies in how I will choose to open the door to the new season.
Life is ready and open for living. There is a relentless nature to it all that I cannot ignore. I find myself focusing on the immediate, quietly being drawn by life to see beyond. As I lift my eyes, I discover that Divinity has created space for my contributions. In a busy and crowded room, there is space for my creativity and freedom to express itself.
The calm of the morning is not an indicator that all will be smooth during the day. There is a hint of wind on the water. Ripples reveal that push and pull that will touch your life and mine. Light has shown it can take the lead, even as the battle between good and evil, self and kindness continues. My choice of sides will be revealed in word and action. My prayer is that compassion and care rule the day.
We are never alone. I can see movement on the streets outside. There is a pace that is building. “It makes good sense that the God who got everything started and keeps everything going now completes the work by making the Salvation Pioneer perfect through suffering as he leads all these people to glory.” (Hebrews 2.10). Today, I can take the preparation to action.
