“The spacious, free life is from God, it’s also protected and safe. God-strengthened, we’re delivered from evil – when we run to him, he saves us.” Psalm 37.40
Security is present on every significant corner. It seems more normal than odd these days. The threats and fear of strangers present in all. I wonder about the spacious innocence during my childhood. Was any of it real?
Living in a land with a Queen gives new meaning to security. The guard changing is an attraction drawing hundreds each day. The regal nature of the guards with their tall black caps, beautiful horses, and rigid pose all come together with an awesome splendor. Looking at Buckingham Palace, I wonder what heaven will be like. Will we all have a palace like the Queen? Will we live in state apartments at the equivalent Kensington Palace? What will it be like to be truly safe?
My own dreams express my doubt today.
David’s prayer reflects God’s promise for each in the present. Turning to God gives a unique sense of spaciousness and freedom. Living in the presence of God protects one’s self from the evil one. The combination of the two above delivers us from our own self, because when we turn to him he will restore us to our place by his side.
Can I realize this dream? Can I find this secret place? Yes and yes!
God’s greatest desire is that I rest with him. God’s greatest hope is that I experience love, acceptance, and grace. God’s dream is my dream. Two dreams waiting on my decision to become real. Two hopes, two destinies, two choices waiting to become one.
There is a lot today that challenges this belief. People believe that God is binding and limiting. People will have one believe that God cannot be trusted and that he enjoys tormenting and punishing people. Some people even suggest that God and evil are two sides of the same coin.
My experience says God is a God of ultimate love. My experience says God is for you too!
