Some projections are not hard to make. Combine any two forms of self abuse with time and you can see the person age before your eyes. Bad diet, not enough sleep, and no exercise will catch up with time. It is a formula which seems to deny any and all attempts to control or manipulate. Some factors are far less obvious. Put lies, cheating, and exploitation into the mix of time and the wear on the person engaged in this type of behavior will show up in ways that are obvious. Each pays a price for their past. Call it karma, fate, or simply an outcome – it is predictable.
When I look at myself in the mirror I wonder how I could have learned differently. Clearly life’s lessons were teaching me. Just as clear, in hindsight, is the reality that I am a very slow learner! I fear that unless something changes a decade from now will merely be a simple projection from where I am heading. Will I have someone say to me what they said to Babylon? Am I going to hear there condemnation between the lines as the words form a warning for the future? “This is where your pomp and fine music led you, Babylon, to your underworld private chambers, a king-size mattress of maggots for repose and a quilt of crawling worms for warmth.” (Isaiah 14.11)
You and I are not condemned to stay on the paths we are on. We have the freedom to take and make new paths. We can change the future. We hold freedom within our grasp. We can but will we?
Divinity has expressed what our present is – we are children of God’s. Divinity has painted our futures – being one with God, acting in harmony, realizing all we are created to be. My path often seems to be at odds with this view. Both are possible. Your choice and mine will determine which one becomes real.
Springtime is a wonderful time of rebirth. Today’s dawn can be a fresh gateway. It is ours, if we choose.
