“Say of God, We’ve never seen anything like him!” Psalm 66.3
Grocery shopping is often an adventure. Anticipation, strong viewpoints, and selection combine to create an army of alternatives. When you add a new culture and country to the mix, the combination is well beyond volatile! There are so many things to look at and consider; decisions to make and price comparisons to consider. The hitch often appears when your favorite brand is not available or when a new fruit or vegetable is calling you to attention. Do I have any idea what I should do or what I am getting into?
I find people who talk about God very similar to new shoppers. They are full of ideas, explaining this viewpoint and that, presenting a picture with every nuance describe with full confidence in detail. The more they talk, the more I know they know nothing of which they speak! Explaining how to use a lychee in a curry or what tikka sauce is can only come with experience. Taking the time to explore and experience Greek yogurt is totally different than talking about the benefits and potential combinations.
When I shop at the same store and eat the same food for breakfast, day after day and week after week, I find myself not looking at or understanding what is happening. I am in a routine where I know exactly what things will be like and what they will do.
God gives each of us an invitation to come, taste, and experience what God is. God is confident that our experience will expose his character, his consistent nature, and provide the foundation for our decision.
We know evil; we see it all around us and we practice it in our lives. Evil brings with it a well-deserved negative image; in the end, everything will be no more because of it. The challenge is that evil is merely making a decision of self.
God vs. self; we have a choice. We know self; do we have the courage to experience God?
It is your call.
