“God, you’re my last chance of the day. I spend the night on my knees before you.” Psalm 88.1
Self-confidence is a necessary ingredient for success. There are several different ways confidence appears. I know how far I can run if I “must”. I am confident in my ability to discern opportunities in a management challenge. I carry a belief that I can produce a presentation in a short time that is clear, understandable, and professional.
New Yorkers carry a reputation for self-confidence gone awry. Others accuse the city and the people of living there of being arrogant in the extreme! Sure they say, you have one of the biggest cities, the financial center of the world, extraordinary shopping, and the world’s best artists; however, the criticism starts.
Where does self reliance and confidence stop and dependence on God begin? Is there a link between them? Can one approach life with enthusiasm, belief in one’s ability, and confidence?
My experience with God matched by a reading of the Bible suggests the answer be Yes!
Yes, we can live a “heaven” existence today; life full of enthusiasm, with confidence in God and one’s ability! Yes, there is a link between my self-confidence and God. The answer is at the heart of the gospel.
Self-confidence based on my ability to be successful is weak and fragile on the best of days. Self-confidence because I am God’s beloved (God’s special chosen child and friend) is a fact that nobody can dispute! God believes we are so special that He sent His Son to live life as we could live and then die for every failure past, present, and future. God believes we are so special that He staked His own existence on what happened in this world. The facts are plain; God lived as us, God died for us, God views us as His friends and companions.
Wake up! Smell the coffee! God thinks we are the best! God knows we can do anything because He has unlimited strength waiting for us to tap! Time to rock and roll!
