Pulling an awesome dinner together is art in motion. This is an underlying science to the process, however the finished product depends on the creative strokes of the chef along with the participants. When it is a great dinner, something truly extraordinary, the electricity is numbing, invigorating, and humbling all at the same time. It is as if God himself is pulling the last few strings, knowing just what will take to give everyone the consummate experience!
I can remember a few such dinners. One especially stands out; the combination of great food, unexpectedly good combinations, and most importantly good friends and conversations all blended together for a memory that will carry me for decades to come. We remembered the evening recently and that conversation alone has stayed with me for several days. We wondered aloud what it was that made everything work.
The answer is quite simple; our unity in purpose gave God a forum to participate with us. In the end, the combination of God’s Spirit, His blessing, and His participation in the events with us became a glue and catalyst that took everyone to a level rarely experienced.
The opposite is much more common. Someone, very often me, is a bad apple in the ingredients. Stress, anger, frustration, and who knows what else is part of the mix and a living hell results. “God hates…a troublemaker in the family.” (Proverbs 6.16,19) It is not that we want to be difficult is just that we believe that we have a excellent sight, ideas, and something to add. We push without thinking and the results are less than attractive!
The evening I remember was just the opposite. Everyone worked as if they already knew what was going to happen. We did not have a clue; we just trusted the process. Suggestions flew in from all sides. People gave and accepted Ingredients with open arms. Something that could easily be chaos blended in a bizarre mix of sweet harmony and wonderful results.
God offers you and I a recipe for exceptional living. Today I am feasting.
