His face was distant, yet familiar. His mannerism echoed of a day long since past, yet recognizable. His voice spoke of enthusiasm and energy. I was sure I knew him, but from where?
Our first conversation, albeit fairly short, did not help. Doubts began to creep in. Perhaps I was trying to make a puzzle out of pieces that did not go together. I filed the doubts to be explored at another time.
Our second meeting did not initially answer any of my questions. It started out in the same way two boxers approach each other in the ring. We both scored a point here and there with a job. We both took full swings without any real intent to hurt or damage the other. As the talked, going back in time, we discovered that we had met and even worked together a decade ago. As I recalled the past, I noted that he had not really changed. I wonder if I am the same?
Many people think they know God. As we talk, I often wonder whom they know. The person or being they speak of is not familiar. The relationship they have is not one that I recognize. I rarely try to judge their God; I am far more interested in discovering if I know him.
If you do not know my God, let me introduce you to what He says about her self.
“Good counsel and common sense are my characteristics; I am both Insight and the Virtue to live it out.” (Proverbs 8.14)
“I am Lady Wisdom, and I live next to Sanity; Knowledge and Discretion live just down the street.” (Proverbs 8.12)
I find I often do not often recognize God. I keep looking for God in discreet places, but He is everywhere. I assume that God only works in certain ways, yet She consistently reaches in the far nuances of life.
Be aware; God is reaching out for you with compassion, love, and warmth. You may not recognize the face instantly, but the touch and experience should tell you everything.
