In the quiet eddies of my mind are reflections a life journey. Sometimes I look through them chronologically. On other occasions, it is by friend or the way individual moments were pivotal.
My recent reflection journey has taken me to specific individuals and the relationship we shared. It started with the news of a passing far too soon. It quickly looped to include one or two others where I wish I could have said more. I have not been able to leave this reflection journey. It feels as if Life needs to remind me of more, so today will be greater because of the reminders.
In each of these relationships, I can see something in common.
Each as a consistent character filled with love, kindness, and care. One felt it at first. With time, one experienced the way their approach to life touched your own in a way which natural brought peace, trust, and hope with it. In walking with them, it was easy to be compassionate to others because I knew I was being cared for and looked after. I am thankful that I was able to express my version of the psalm as I experienced a child of Divinity; “Thank God! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits.” (Psalm 136.1)
Each was learning, growing, and reaching for more. In art, creative pursuits, and relationships, it was never static. Each day was a fresh canvas, an opportunity to respond to the life with an excitement, freshness, and the confidence that it would be better than yesterday. I never grew tired of our conversation. With each encounter, I found myself healed, energized, and committed to giving hope life.
In times of need, they were present, patient, and positive. Each was a force for good. They may not have had the power to “fix” everything, but they always gave and shared all that they had.
In Life’s reminders of past and present, I find my response to the call. In remembering, I am committed to be and do for others what has been done for me.
