Regime changes are never easy. It doesn’t really matter what type, even though we often underestimate the difficulty inherent in changing a personal routine. It appears anyone can talk about it. Politicians suggest countries should have a regime change without a single word on how this might happen. Intellects rally to the cause of people doing the right thing, which in turn will lead to a regime change and turn of fortunes for the less fortunate. New Year resolutions are made without consideration as to what will be different in the new morning. Even fresh commitments given as part of a relationship can imply regime changes. The question resting without answer is this; what will be different?
You and I carry a hope within us common to most. We hope tomorrow will be better. We hope the future will come with peace, prosperity, and happiness. We hope our relationships will grow in nurturing and loving ways. I believe most people carry this hope. I also sense most have no idea of how to bring this hope into reality. Today begins to blur into yesterday which in turn was the same as last week, month, and even year. The amount of change in our regimes is often at best small.
My observation and experience says the model introduced by God long ago in history continues to be the model that works. Bluntly, “at this moment the world is in crisis. Now Satan, the ruler of this world [heart of Evil], will be thrown out.” (John 12.31) The way realize change, throw Evil out, and have a regime change is by focusing on what is new.
What didn’t exist yesterday that you want to exist today? Don’t worry about what not to do, focus on what you want, need, and desire. Missing compassion? Be compassionate. Longing for a gift of mercy and kindness? Give mercy and kindness to someone else. Thirsty for justice? Stand up and fight for the rights of others!
We can begin the revolution! We are the revolution. God is in the present. Are we?
