I woke up today remembering moments that changed my life. Two stand out in particular. One, when someone I deeply loved released herself into God’s arm for healing. The other, when I realized that God was always with me because of the single reason that I was one of God’s kids, deeply loved as I was. I do not think either event was calculated. I do think that in both cases, we were ready. If was as if we had secretly let God know we were ready for that moment. Divinity, in love, wisdom, and compassion, released us into something more.
I would be the last one to suggest that I have always held on to that moment. I can think of times where I have been overwhelmed by darkness, wondering why God had deserted me when my need for Divine Presence was at its peak. I can feel the touch of Evil has on my life, often because of a personal invitation. There is no doubt that I lose my way, much like a wandering child who does not, maybe cannot think of the greater picture.
The God I know is a patient one. It is as if Divinity has anticipated my wanderings and is preparing for my return. Another way of looking at it is that God is always happy when I show up! God is present, in your life and mine. Divinity has chosen to live within us. There are moments, sometimes ever so brief, where we can feel a Divine spark. The broader invitation is to life in the reality of letting the God within shape everything that we are. God’s thoughts brought into our reality through our words, hands, feet, and ears. One of God’s aspirations is that we know this, choose in this knowledge to stay, never leaving the Presence.
David remembered God touch and shared his response to God with us; “The good people taste your goodness, the whole people taste your health.” (Psalm 18.25) His words mirror my own. I gratefully remember God is with and in us.
