I walked along the path, thinking the early morning light would be like many others. In full stride, my eyes caught the reflection to my left. Turning, I was presented with a unique reflection, its blue palette of colours offset by soft whites from the three small buildings at the base. I paused, wanting to etch the experience as emotions washed through me. It was as if I had been blessed by the unknown and left with a challenge to do something in response.
Life has a habit of sharing a blessing of hope, the experience of awe, and the realisation of a greater story. Because of my busyness, I know I miss the gifts laid out on my path. This morning, seemingly by the collision of time, presence, and curiosity, I experienced an injection and infusion of unusual beauty and peace. My stride and attitude shifted. My pace was there, and yet it was different.
Life uses various sources, such as individuals, buildings, context, and more, to communicate and guide. Ignoring the traditional boundaries between us opens the door to experiencing far more than I ever thought possible. The story has been repeated across the generations. I recall when a “man, a complete outsider, collected tithes from Abraham and blessed him, the one to whom the promises had been given.” (Hebrews 7.6). Being open, quick to recognise, and responding was as key to Abraham as it is to me today.
Life offers us gifts, knowing we will respond. As I let the reflection touch my heart and soul, I heard a call to use this for good. It was interesting to note that there was no prescription with the call. I felt challenged to be creative and open, willing and able to take everything I have described and more as a foundation for my approach to each step today. Life gifted me with beauty, wonder, and silence in caring to make a difference. What follows is up to me.
There is a story to write. I know it will be filled with kindness and compassion.
