We live in an age that demands instant results. Many, myself included, with gray hair caution that results take time. We know that life rarely unfolds with the speed we imagine. We understand that patience, perseverance, and endurance contribute to great outcomes. Candidly, I do not expect anything to happen quickly. Everything takes time. Even when I do not understand why something cannot be realized now, I rarely anticipate a quick result. Perhaps, I am missing something.
What if the critical things in life can happen immediately? I wonder which things are actually critical. I also wonder what I need to do in order to have immediate results.
There is precedence. When Paul realized that a girl who had given up her life to Evil was annoying him, he spoke and the demon was gone. “It was gone, just like that.” (Acts 16.18) She did not ask for the intervention. She did not seem to be in obvious distress. Yet, Paul sensed that she wanted more than what she had. Besides, she was annoying.
Let me suggest the following.
Important things always relate to relationships. Be it God or each other, the relationships in our lives are what defines our lives. It is never about money, things, or status. It is always about our relationships with others.
Important things always sit in the present. The past is not important, except as we might learn from it. The future is only relevant to what we can do in the moment at hand. Life pivots on the moment in which we have.
Important things change with our belief. Belief is never defined solely by something within. Belief is defined by our expression and action. Belief with expressed with Truth is incredibly powerful. This act changes the moment at hand. We will experience change and that change it itself is a result. We do not control others. What happens in their lives rests within their belief.
We can make a different, today, right now. Letting go of the future is part of focusing on the present. I like results.
