Ripples and Waves

There are moments where the immediate demand calls for the incredible.  Others may think it impossible, but those responding to the call seem to be able to go beyond our limitations, barriers, and unbelief.  As the initial class practice and qualifying sessions unfolded, I found myself enjoying the Formula BMW series.  The small, agile open wheel racers were fun to watch.  The professional drivers initially explored widely different racing lines looking for the best combination of speed and time.  As the “best” emerged, their times began to drop dramatically!  As the qualifying session ended, I thought I had been witnessed the incredible.
In hindsight, their lap times were excellent yet nothing near the impossible!  As the F1 cars took the circuit for the first time, I found that whatever I thought I had witnessed, I had not even imagined much less seen the possibilities!  Speeds increased.  Times dramatically dropped.  Everything – reference points, potential, intensity, urgency, and the impending sense of how horrific a mistake could be – changed, even during the first session.  I was not alone.  Commentators, crews, and even drivers were experiencing everything for the first time.  What they imagined was now being replaced by reality and experience.
I often think I have a good handle on the present and future.  I know what might be.  I understand the range and scope of the possibilities.  I can see options, alternatives, and different paths.  I am often ignorant, walking alone in my pride and arrogance.
In these moments, there are messengers who speak with wisdom beyond their grasp.  Their words are prophetic even in the messenger's ignorance.  Their words are insightful even as they are painted with a simple delivery.  I am learning that it is foolish and dangerous to ignore God's words, no matter how they come to me; “He sent me so you could see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”  (Acts 9.18)
God calls after you and me.  We receive invitations to participate in something we cannot imagine.  God's ripple today in us can be tomorrow's wave.
