Role

Do you understand your role?  I am not questioning your understanding of your employment and work relationships.  I question your understanding of your specific role in the relationships you have with family.  I wonder about your view of how you explicitly fit in with your community.  The question is not about perception or the understanding others have of you.  The wonder reflects the mystery in the view each has of their soul in action.  Do we, my self included, see themselves in their community?  Is our purpose and intent clear, at least for ourselves?  Are the drivers of our life understood?  Can we quantify success?  Will we know it when we get there?
 
The irony is that even with knowing, understanding, and being true to one’s purpose, there is no guarantee that success will occur, people will like you, or even that you will be accepted.  However none of this ultimately matters unless being popular is your ultimate life purpose.  I believe each of us has a role that when revealed becomes a discovery of empowerment, freedom, and gift of wholeness.
 
Jesus had a problem.  People didn’t understand his role.  “He tried again.  ‘I'll be explicit, then.  I am the Gate for the sheep.  All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them.  But the sheep didn't listen to them.  I am the Gate.  Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture.  A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy.  I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”  (John 10.7-10) 
 
In hindsight, his message was clear, concise, and for a time still not understood.  Yet the lack of others not understanding didn’t deter him from his mission.  In fact it seemed to empower, embolden, and enthuse.
 
I don’t know your role and purpose.  I do know it has something to do with compassion realized.  During your day take time to reflect.  You will be better for it.
