“Who is the King-Glory? God, armed and battle ready.” Psalm 24.8
Accessing the www and email is always a traveling adventure, especially when one forgets to plan! There are two essential requirements and one nice to have. Adapter plugs for power are helpful for working beyond the first three hours. Essential tools include the right access number and a telephone adapter plug.
Zurich came with no advance planning. Yes, I had lots of time but I failed to take advantage of it! Sitting in the hotel business center at 11 p.m., I searched my bag. I found a power adapter and telephone list. Locating a fax machine, I borrowed a phone cord.
All set? Evidently not since an hour later there were still two of us trying to access CompuServe. Several phone calls later our Swiss host discovered an error in the telephone numbers held by myself and the hotel. Now we were battle ready!
My spiritual life follows a similar bath. I “know” I am ready to take on the world, fight the battles, and win the wars. I waste advance planning time and often find myself rushing into the “let’s just do it” mode. In the middle of battle, I trust more and more on my own skills, often frantically searching my bag of goodies for the essential tools I forgot to pack. When I fall, I curse god’s failure to make me successful in the way I am supposed to be.
Who is the god that failed? The god of failure is certainly not the God of David or Paul.
Who is David’s God? This God is armed, ready for battle, head of the angel armies. This God is full of grace, unconditional acceptance and love. This God is interested in me, wanting to be an integral part of my life. This God is just.
Forget the tools, just hold on to God! Spend the time, God will equip you with every skill and attitude you will need. If you are willing, God will take care of you. God just needs your invitation.
