Secret Weapon

The British election process is underway.  Unlike American politics this contest is measured in days and weeks, not months.  This contest is running true to form, roughly four weeks.  Like politics everywhere the rumors, insinuations, and search for secret messages, agendas, and even weapons is well underway!  Nothing is quite as it appears, is it?  Things couldn’t be this simple, could they?  People never change, do they?
 
The good news for Britain is that there appears to be at least three clear leadership choices.  Everybody has a few skeletons.  Nobody has a pristine slate.  It seems everyone is playing the game from three common angles.  Defend your past, denigrate your opponents, and paint a rosy future filled with promises.  Each in his way ignores broken promises of yesterday, failed policies, and blatant failures – personal and public.  It is as if humility is a character trait that all want without the blemishes.
 
So far, the second day into the campaign, the secret weapons are still secret.  Before it is over we will know!  Surprise endorsements, verbal faux pas, and unknown promises will come to light when we least expect.  Perhaps we will have a fight or two; it didn’t seem to hurt last time when a senior member of cabinet threw a punch at a protester who had just egged him. 
 
We need secret weapons in life.  Ironically we often forget we already have one within us.  It was provided centuries ago.  Jesus words made it clear; “I will talk to the Father, and he'll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you.  This Friend is the Spirit of Truth.  The godless world can't take him in because it doesn't have eyes to see him, doesn't know what to look for.  But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!”  (John 14.16, 17) 
 
There are no restrictions, filters, or qualifications to worry about, unless we don’t want the Spirit.  Today is bright and full of hope.  I’m using everything in my arsenal.
