As I walked on through the elevated concrete plaza, the wall of bougainvillea flowers was inspiring. It soon became apparent that flowers and the placement of the wall were integral parts of a restaurant. I could see patrons on the other side, enjoying the ambiance and the food. It was a wonderful combination of nature, creativity, and the company of good friends.
As I reflected, the wind whipped through the building and the flowers danced. It was a fun moment where eerily quietness except for the sound of the wind combined with different movements shaped by where the flower was on the vine. White, pink, and orange flowers form a community of hope and excitement.
Every human being is wonderfully unique. As I embrace the idea, I find myself appreciating the personalities around me, with different strengths and capabilities, forming a wonderful whole. Old words still ring true; “let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t. If you preach, just preach God’s Message, nothing else;” (Romans 12.6)
Together, we can create experiences that are wonderful, creative, and personalised. With the smells coming out of the kitchen, the softness of the breeze, and the wall of dancing flowers, anything was possible. As I observed the laughter of a large group, quiet moments shared by a couple, and staff working in harmony, the balance of self-identity and community was on display. Memories were being created in this moment, some likely to last a lifetime.
Today is an invitation to bring myself to the community. There will be opportunities to collaborate, independently and together. Each has a part of play. I can bring my best and work to bring out the best in others. Today will be a moment in time, a chapter within itself. This is my opportunity to contribute and be part of the larger story. Individually and collectively, we can step towards a better tomorrow.
Yes, I am unique, I am also part of a family.
