Rogues are often hard to trace. These mysterious entities, with no known source or destination, wander loose in search of who knows what. If you know can discover the source, their motives and destinations often become clear. Last week we were searching for a rogue trade. It took a bit of research to find the source. When we did, the purpose and destination became easily clear. Rogues do not stop with obscure transactions hidden in some unknown corporation's technology platform. Rogue events haunt your life and mine. Rogue individuals extract a penalty in the lives of innocents and those less so. Rogue actions strike out of the vapor, causing pain and creating uncertainty.
I hold a belief about my God. God is never a rogue. Whatever God does, God does in the open. Whatever God is, God is consistently. I may not fully understand God, yet even in my limited vision, I can see God at work. Even in God's mystery, Divinity's hallmarks are openness, transparency, and consistency.
I often act as if I have never heard of my belief. I hold God responsible for pain and death. I find God accountable for evil's actions. I even look to God to explain the consequences of how individuals, including myself, exercise our freedom. In short, I look to God to explain every event in life! It does not matter if the action and outcome goes against God's nature, command, or values. God is, or so my logic goes, accountable.
God is all about freedom, yours, and mine. We can choose God's values or our own. In either case, the outcome is our responsibility. With freedom, we can choose to align ourselves with God, tap into the Spirit's power, and walk knowing the truth is ultimately stronger than its adversary. When we action this way wonderful things can and do happen. You will find, “backed by the name of your God, The Holy of Israel, showering you with splendor.” (Isaiah 60.9b) The Truth brings peace and hope, a sense of light and energy. Welcome to a new day.
