My walk took me past a building lit up at night. It was standing tall, with a few windows revealing occupants that gave it value and presence. The potential metaphors illustrated how Life often has so much to say to a person with a limited attention span. Each window came with a potential insight. With awareness mixed with emptiness, the building could have been almost anything in my life, a gateway to my heart, my way of thinking, and even a representation of the values and priorities that define my soul. It was a moment that carved itself within my memories.
As today begins, it feels as if it is a new day. The values and priorities within are fighting to rise to the top. I do not know what the day will bring. As I reflect on Life whispers, I find myself coming back to the image of the building at night.
Filling each window of life is ongoing. Today is an opportunity to fill it with kindness and care. The events may be still unwritten. Our input and response will change the way our hearts are nurtured. Each decision to care and be kind, no matter what the initial outcome is, tells my heart of the value and rank within us. In bringing the message within to life, I take a step toward hope. When the act is one focused only on the self, it is a step away from the community and a better future.
Yesterday I was treated by three different security guards with care and kindness. As I waited to take my turn, on different occasions I was escorted or directed to go to the front of the line. I could feel each expression of care. I experienced their kindness. Each gift was shared without a sense of recompense. In addition to being helped, I was changed.
As I consider the actions of Divinity’s agents, they rise “far higher than any angel in rank and rule.” (Hebrews 1.4) Each individual was, in the moment, Divine. Today, I will stand with them.
