I walked through the sub-basement parking, confident that my shortcut would help me avoid ten minutes out in the hot sun. The cars below ground reflected the upscale residences above, mostly Mercedes, BMWs, and a few upscale SUVs and sportscars. The odd shape of a covered car in a dark corner caught my eye. As I moved closer, it was clear that this was a restored early-sixties Chevy Impala. As I walked over to take a closer look, I realised that the reveal of a right-rear quarter panel hinted that this was a great starting point for something greater.
My quick picture of the scene set the stage for life’s whispers about the larger story in my life. I would love to know the story behind the car and the individuals who enjoy getting it out on the road. In the interim, I find myself thinking of the day ahead and the guideposts that linger from the parking lot deep within a building.
Great results involve a lot of work. It is never about those who put the final touches. It is about those willing to get into the arena and take on the challenge at every stage, creating the foundation for what will come. Remember, “Moses did a good job in God’s house, but it was all servant work, getting things ready for what was to come.” (Hebrews 3.5). There are different talents required for each stage. Each in its own way contributes to the story and outcome.
As promising as something may be, it takes the full story to reveal the result. The rear quarter looks awesome. I would like to believe that the rest of the paintwork, interior, and running gear reflects the same level of care. As much as one might hope, there is more to the story of our lives. Each moment contributes to a chapter. Chapters begin to reveal where the storyline is heading. Each author writes the final chapter, bringing everything together as a revelation of what is within one’s heart and soul.
Today is my story’s reveal.
