Knowing where one is stepping can be challenging. Fading light, eyesight, and one’s sense of direction play into the challenge of staying safe while finding one’s destination. There is an expression that comes into play; let’s meet on the level. I smiled at the sign, displayed in both English and Arabic, that we meet and stand as equals in the larger story of our humanity. It is easy to forget in the rush to get to what comes next. In the turmoil of the emotional roller coaster of the day, one forgets that others are walking through hells of their own. As today begins on the mostowa, I listen to life whisper, pointing me to Divinity and where my life begins.
Divinity offers me the truth of my value and standing. In my forgetfulness of her gift, I realise with today’s dawn that I stand unconditionally accepted and embraced as Divinity’s child. In the wrapping of her love, compassion, and sacrifice, I am perfect. I will fail today. I can also be restored and recreated in my acceptance of her ongoing work within and without. Today is my opportunity to stand tall and free, out in life’s field, knowing Divinity resides within. I can care. I can make a difference. I have steps to take, words to offer, and relationships to support.
Life presents opportunities to learn and grow. It is so much more than me. I have a role to play, a time and place in which I can be the difference for myself and others. The calling I hear is to move forward with care. The warning is clear as I start: “Watch your step when you enter God’s house. Enter to learn. That’s far better than mindlessly offering a sacrifice, doing more harm than good.” (Ecclesiastes 5.1) The story unfolding has a place for me. It will be the story of how I used my freedom for good. It will tell the tale of how I put my creativity and caring to use. I will reveal the truths I hold in my heart.
