A combination of recent events triggered a fresh understanding of the responsibility of stewardship. Events included a life well lived as measured by lives touched for the better. It also included an invitation to bring humanity into the centre of financial services. Mixed into these two, are experiences shared with those desperate to live but not sure how, uncertainties for the future, and the power of love to change darkness into hope. With a fresh appreciation of kindness, care, and community, I hear a persistent call to use the gifts within for the good of those without.
Appreciating beauty, wonder, and the gifts one has received frames what is worth protecting. In appreciating I learn how to use what I have been given for a better future for all. I find myself reflecting on the resources and possibilities. In understanding the opportunity for how these might play out in the future, I see the gap between today and tomorrow. Together with Divinity, we have what we need to move forward.
The measure is not how much; we are measured by what we do with what we have. Some of the greatest challenges lie in life’s core. One wants to survive, even grow. One longs to know s/he is accepted and belongs. One thirsts to know love and hope. Within me is an ability to support others by gifting them with what Divinity and others have gifted me. An opportunity to live and thrive. The experience of being in a family and community. The warm embrace of love. The sharing and creation of hope.
My trust in others, even Divine, has been confirmed through experience. It started with trusting the stories others shared about their lives. It grew as I created my own. For me, “That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” (Romans 8.28)
The calling to be a steward of kindness and care is overwhelming. Today is for living by supporting those I meet, to giving what I have been given.
