It is interesting to catch up with friends that span chapters of one’s life. I am reminded that the story lines of our life are often constant. Details and nuances change, even major characters, yet the underlying themes and plot endure and remain uniquely ours.
As I think of my one of kind story lines, I am not sure I am aware of the nuances. It is fun to reflect and consider what is as well as what I would like them to be. I know that the story lines that I want to be part of my life include the following.
Caring individuals and communities. I have an intense thirst to in communities that care for each other as well as the larger family and the world in which we live. Life reminds me that in every situation compassionate caring is offered unselfishly, without consideration for recognition or reward.
Spirit filled foundation. There is something wonderfully holistic when life begins with an infusion of Divinity. I catch myself echoing a Psalm; “I’ll never quit telling the story of your love – how you built the cosmos and guaranteed everything in it. Your love has always been our lives’ foundation; your fidelity has been the roof over our world.” (Psalm 89.2) I know I have lost my foundation at times. When rediscovered, embraced, and used to stand, good always follow.
Beauty and wonder. In the ugliness that often dominates your life and mine, there is beauty and wonder to be seen, experienced, and embraced. It is here. In the urban environments where we spend much of our lives, in the quietness and darkness, and yes, even in the tragedies. I continue to be touched by the wonder that emerged in wrestling with death and the passing of those I love. I am wrapped in beauty that I did not anticipate.
Today is a fresh opportunity to add new storylines in your life and mine. I am hope filled because I am sure that they will include laughter, love, and an enduring sense of the possible.
