In the corporate world I find myself in, the consultant advice for success is to strive to walk with a strut or swagger. One needs to have facts and figures in your mind at all times. There needs to be confidence behind the moves. With this is place, one should wrap one’s self with the appropriate amount of humbleness and credit to the team. The combination will provide the platform to confidently move forward.
The advice has been consistent over my decades in business. I rebelled against it when I first heard about it and I am still rebelling. There are several important points that I think everyone should know and do.
Be aware and understand the facts. Life reminds me that believing in one’s hype is the first step towards destruction. Grasp and seek to understand life as it is.
Recognize the role others play in your life. Teamwork is a cliché, however it plays a critical role in success. Knowing and giving credit to others for what they have done is an important step in creating mutual trust.
Being humble is something that we should understand in context of the facts and the role of our community. There are reasons for it! When I think of others and their swagger, my observation is also a warning. “You might be sure of yourselves, but we live in the midst of frailties and uncertainties. You might be well-thought-of by others, but we’re mostly kicked around.” (1 Corinthians 4.11)
There are reasons to stand tall and celebrate. Teamwork can bring extraordinary results. Everyone should walk with confidence at her/his side. With each achievement life offers us a few reminders. Success always takes more than one. Yesterday’s success does not carry us in the moment at hand. Remembering is important; it is often the foundation for courage. Our lives are always about the present.
Today is an opportunity to stand tall and be accounted. God has been with us. We have done great things. The opportunity is here with us. We have the freedom to write more stories.
