The Burj Khalifa stood tall as the sun set on a dusty day. I slowed my walk, reflecting on what the buildings symbolised. Earlier, I had spent a few hours in meetings in an area that only a few years ago had been just sand. Friends share stories of Dubai and other locations in the Emirates of what it was like in the past. I know there were individuals, especially in leadership, who believed. Many others could not imagine and hold onto a belief in what could be. Considering the day’s conversation, when one looks into the future, how does one imagine and believe what could be?
Life whispers gently took me back to my memories. The reminders in that journey set the stage for me to look forward as my day begins.
Early steps focused on the next step. The bigger picture comes with time. I see it as my personalised learning process in coming of age. There was no grand vision or complex ideas. It was a step that set a foundation around familiar ideas and disciplines. In many ways, it echoes the writer’s observation of how Israel back in the day understood worship; “That first plan contained directions for worship and a specially designed place of worship.” (Hebrews 9.1) I recognise the step even as I see how worship is much more than a place.
Living to the maximum is revealed in how we live each moment. There is an opportunity to be kind and to care. There is a window through which compassion can be expressed. People are involved. Lives will be touched. It started within. With experience, I knew it would only be realised without. It is in the relationships of our lives that we find and embrace the fullness of what life can be. When every step includes the other, starting with Divinity, life opens us up to a place created just for us, where we were always meant to be.
If we are open to learning and growth, the possible remains within reach. With each step, Divinity offers more.
