Life is hectic, overwhelming, and defies understanding. Everyone has goals that exceed their abilities. Even God is limited because of the role that our freedom plays in Divine action. The challenge in every instance is the role that others play. Freedom of choice reigns! Some might call it chaos, others a lack of planning and details, and yet individually we treasure the very things that cause the problem.
Are you willing to have no choice for the common good? Does this include your right to set the course of your life down to the smallest detail – like choosing what clothes you want to wear today? What about yesterday’s indulgent decisions “you” made? Can you let those go? I am not suggesting they were bad, but do either of us have any idea what a society where there was no choice would be like?
Before even thinking that this is all God’s fault, remember that it was our choice (well our parent’s parents back a few hundred or so generations) that put us on a path outside of our created environment. In this context the journey back requires participation on all sides! We face a choice if we even want to be part of the process. If we say “yes” then the questions of where we fit in come as opportunities to make a difference.
Even in John’s vision there were plenty of tasks for the hands responding to God.
“I was given a stick for a measuring rod and told, “Get up and measure God’s Temple and Altar and everyone worshiping in it…”
“Meanwhile, I’ll [God will] provide my two Witnesses.” (Revelation 11.1-3)
I start my day with a certainty and a question. The certainty centers on the role that “team” plays in my life. Everything is a partnership! As I inventory life itself – marriage, family, work, and quiet time – I find Cherry, the girls, the management group, and God all forming relationships with me in order for something to happen!
The question, as always, is what’s next. The answer lies with us.
