As I look back on my life’s influencers, the individuals share something in common. Each connected their words with actions. In one case, a friend unleashed and focused my creativity through a simple statement he always practices; “Less is more and more is less.” (Psalm 37.16a)
While I have heard other repeat this, he put it into action and reality. When he reminded me of the principle, I knew exactly what he meant! There was no ambiguity or confusion. It was clear. It he was commenting on something I had done, instant awareness always followed. It became obvious. I do not remember disagreeing with his observation.
Another offered me a observation on why I kept coming back to the golf course. Referring to a shot, he said “One righteous will outclass fifty wicked.” (Psalm 37.16b) It just takes one or two a round and you will always want to come back.
As I rode the Harley through a country club, I could see the foursomes out on the course. The two mantras echoes as memories competed with the scene I was a part of. Then and now I knew I could do and be more than I what I am. Life is never as complicated as it seems. The best works of creativity as often combination of simple ideas in good settings.
Even as I wondered how I would describe the outcome I find myself looking at a picture of a single purple flower standing tall through a bed of brown pine needles.
Yes, I know life is messy and complex. I will not even try to challenge this reality. Life has a habit of reminding me that at the heart of it all, it is never as it first appears.
The question I always find myself wrestling with is found in the moment I have. Will I stay present and use the freedom within to make a difference or will I remain stuck in the past or in an imaginary world of the future.
It just takes one simple act to bring things into focus.
