To dance on the stage or not; is now the time? Metaphorically I think we face this question far more than anyone would care to even think about. The decision point comes as we wonder who gets credit for something we have worked on, work through which choice or option becomes “our” choice, and in our daily moments of success. It is fun and exciting to win or discover something; as a result a victory dance around the room could be in order, at least in your mind! Some decisions are so tough that reaching a conclusion is a victory in itself; time to celebrate?
Accomplish something tough? Finally complete that cumbersome or just plain annoying task? Overcome all obstacles, including the minor one of procrastination? Then why not celebrate, break out the fatted calf, and throw a party! Maybe now is the time! You deserve some recognition after everything all the things that have been tossed your way in the process.
Tempting eh?
There is a interesting challenge confronting us all. The world’s mantra says “no one who intends to be publicly known does everything behind the scenes. If you're serious about what you are doing, come out in the open and show the world.” (John 7.4) Get the right publicity. Maximize the spin! Be recognized for your work.
I always wonder if that is the mantra for those serious about enjoying, living, and getting the most out of life. Does taking the “high” road means we focus on the road traveled, the processes used, and the intent of every decision over rewards, recognition, and status? Is being a party to Divinity’s plan come with price we pay in how we let someone else worry about the way people, and even our employers, view us?
I haven’t sorted all this out but I would suggest that you and I are called to a mission. The rewards are already laid out. Trust me; they exceed anything that you or I could possibly orchestrate! Today’s alternatives are many – the Spirit will lead if we give the word.
