The Best

Every parent longs to give her or his child the best life offers.  We want to give the best toys, arrange for the perfect play dates, and nurture sustaining friendships.  We look for the perfect school and activities to fill the kid’s days.  Even if we are forced by circumstances to compromise, we still pursue the quest.  Nothing is too good for our kids!  Fortunately our God understands.  Divinity’s looks at the desires of our hearts and answers with simple, clear, and direct words.  “All your children will have God for their teacher—what a mentor for your children!”  (Isaiah 54.13)
With time, I have found that my desires for my kids changed.  I was no longer sure what the best was or is.  I wish for them, and for those I love, was that they knew God and community.  I hoped they discovered a lasting sense of peace, purpose, and potential.  Things, events, and settings always end up secondary to the role we play in the lives of those around us.  As one experiences opportunity and hope (potential), everything opens up.  As one lives in relationships (community), life takes on a greater meaning.  As one walks in the truth filled peace that comes from being in relationship with a true God, one discovers life’s meaning.  The combination is our first taste of heaven.
I want the best, for you as well as those I love.  I love being friends, walking along side in life, enjoying the steps.  It is a good thing!  I know I am more than I was because of the experience.  I see textures that were hidden in my blindness.  I appreciate colors that previously blended into a monotone vision.  I feel where I was numb.   This is what I hope for my kids.  It is the best!  We can walk, live, and grow with the Spirit and God’s kids. Today, in rain and sun, gray skies and blue, we can reach out for the best.  It is within reach.  No lazy days!  Time to wake up and get with it.
