With close quarters, chaotic and random driving by a small number, and the fact that I am on a motorcycle, every ride to work is an intense rush. Rarely do I arrive stressed. Instead, I usually arrive wide awake, filled with adrenalin, and ruminating on a question from deep within. I have no idea why the questions show up when they do. I have looked without success for a trigger or event correlation. With none to give credit to, there is nothing left to do but consider the question with the intent of coming to an answer.
After a recent ride, particularly intense, I found myself considering the themes that I would like to be known for. The specific keywords and hashtags that I would like others to use if s/he wanted to find me would include the following.
Square bat. I realize this is not the word you probably imagined that I would start with. A friend labeled me many years ago and it has stuck. The cricket reference loosely refers to a style of playing – fair, bat squared to the ball, and above all, honorable.
Compassionately Inclusive. Life is hard, for everyone. I cannot find a reason or rationale to make it more difficult than it already is. I do believe that reaching out, embracing the unembracable, and doing everything one can to help, is the best message one can deliver to one’s self about life.
Learning. Always, everywhere, and in all the forms that it comes, Life, Divinity, and others are trying to teach and guide us. I want to make a difference, to myself and the world around me. The best way I can do this is to learn, grow, and strive to make a difference.
As I rode, focused, in the grove, and at speed, I realized I was musing over a psalm in response the the unanswered question. “My theme song is God’s love and justice, and I’m singing it right to you, God.” (Psalm 101.1)
Everyone’s answer is different. It is part of the wonder and joy of living.
