“When the righteous see God in action, they’ll laugh, they’ll sing, they’ll laugh and sing for you.” Psalm 68.3
Last night I listened to people with a thirst to know God. In every case, they expressed the fact that they did not believe in God and, to their knowledge, carried no immediate need. The conversations drifted into what was happening, where holes in their life were, and things they longed to understand. Again, in every case, each person shared a spiritual thirst. Every individual carried a longing to know they are accepted, loved, and unconditionally cared for. A few recognized this thirst as a thirst to know and see God. The thirst remains because they do not know where to begin.
I listened to people express a thirst to know God and I wondered. Where are the people of God? Where are the hands, feed, voices, and ears of God in action? Can we find these people anywhere?
Readers of the word, seekers of God have a special opportunity. We have the gift of knowing how to paint pictures of God. Our pictures are not esoteric abstracts requiring lengthy explanation. Our picture are living sculptures, unique creations that satisfy even the most parched.
I talked of possibilities last night, wanting to share my glimpse of God in action. I could see the politeness mast creep into place, filled with disbelief. I do not think people thought I was intentionally lying; rather they believed the odds of what I described coming to life as so extreme that it was impossible.
Are we willing to be the agents of satisfaction? Are we willing to take on the challenge? What will we do when we know first hand the lives at risk because people are not able to see God?
It is party time! It is time to laugh and sing as if we never did it before! Forget the aids; go for the real thing! God in action, people in action, people laughing and singing, and worship as worship is meant to be. It’s time, it is time!
