It’s interesting to watch the “who” and “why” when it comes to advice and mentors. Musicians respond to those they admire and who take an interest. Business prodigies often grow on the proven results of those who mentor them. The process works, when we employ it.
On one hand I can see the process work. At the same time I find myself going it on my own far more than is necessary. I believe I can do it. I have confidence in my ability. I know what is important, I have my priorities. A quick review of my recent path suggests otherwise. I may believe yet the foundation is far hopeful than proven. I can have confidence, but there is little to support this perspective. I think I have priorities and values, however history suggests there is little correlation with my actual path.
My blindness isn’t new. People of all generations have made decisions based on weak foundations. Those before us, as well as our generation, didn’t look at things through and through. The facts are, “this note on the animals of the Negev encountered on the road to Egypt: a most dangerous, treacherous route, menaced by lions and deadly snakes. And you're going to lug all your stuff down there, your donkeys and camels loaded down with bribes, thinking you can buy protection from that hollow farce of a nation? Egypt is all show, no substance. My name for her is Toothless Dragon.” (Isaiah 30.6, 7)
The morning dawns in California – bright, warm, and incredibly still. The water in the pool is a perfect reflection of the world around us. Everything is in play. The choices you and I have go on forever, for good and for worse. We get to decide the who and why in our future. The freedom God gives us is ours.
There is a catch. We decide. We make and take the decisions of our lives. Unless we look, really see through and through, we will take decisions based on myths, illusions, and imaginations. Today will be different.
