As I look out across the rooftops, certain buildings dominate the sight lines. Among interesting, unusual, and superb buildings, the ones that reflect the sun and patterns in the sky are the most powerful. It does not matter where you are – London, New York, Mumbai, and even Singapore all have rooftops sharing their views.
Yesterday I looked out from the office window, my eyes and heart drawn to the reflecting gold and polished stone roof points that conveyed strength, endurance, and a willing to share both with me while being a welcome symbol of retreat and reflection. I recognized some of them, wondering aloud about their ability to share a message with other unrecognized buildings, transcending time and familiarity with the story behind the building and its community.
Today I find myself energized by what I see. It is as if the reflections are gathering the energy and hope that is all around me and concentrating it as a free and unconditional offering that I can accept or reject. I can hear the echo of the Psalmist, “Look at our shields, glistening in the sun, our faces, shining with your gracious anointing,” (Psalm 84.9) knowing that protection today comes in many forms.
Intentional action naturally blocks our access careless responses. Any time and energy we put into it is time and energy that was not available for evil.
Accepting and letting the help of others strengthens both parties. The one that gives is energized, as is the individual who accepts. Life reminds me that unconditional gifts freely accepted comes with a divine blessing for both.
Using the wisdom expressed by others as a gateway to take their learnings and insights and add it to one’s heart. This is more than an act of admiration. The process involves understanding, context, and a willingness to embrace truth wherever it is found.
Life reminds that there is still more in the moments. Being open and aware, letting truth in whatever form touch you, and taking the time to understand and appreciate, opens up the possibility of life changing embraces.
