Every human being shares a common trait, no exceptions. Each person has at least one trait, characteristic, in which they excel. It is easy to conclude that there are dummies among us if we stick to what is in “vogue”, however when you look beyond the trendy traditional there are amazing discoveries to be had!
I can remember not that many years ago how families and homemaking was out of vogue. The natural tendency at the time was to dismiss or ignore people who excelled in those skills. I was a guilty as anyone! In hindsight I was extremely short-sighted because I know hold these skills at the top of human achievement. There is little that has more long-term influence or impact on the lives of the people a mother touches. Individuals do not have to know every skill; rather it is the approach, compassion, and dedication that often set them apart.
When I think of women that I admire Wisdom’s description always comes to mind. “She’s skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking.” (Proverbs 31.19) I can never stop there! My thoughts race on to the lives changed because of their work – my own included.
There is a natural sequence that follows. If each of us is made in the image of God then we must reflect at least one character or trait of God. The next step in the progressing says that God character is the sum of every good trait represented in humanity plus a few that we have yet to discover. I find myself slowing down and pausing. Every mother who made a difference is a piece of God. Each father who cared for a person in need is a piece of God. Each child who gives an unconditional smile, act of kindness, and hug of thankfulness are slices of the Divine.
Add them up! The results are absolutely, completely, and totally overwhelming! Bad things happen to very good people. Even when it gets dark I know God has a plan! He is the best of the best.
