The treatment in the restaurant is consistently warm, open, and welcoming. As I sat the first item to arrive was cold towels to freshen my face and remove the dust from my hands. The experience of knowing I belonged was tangible. Every sense etched itself into my experience. In the silence and stillness that naturally followed, I reflected on the family, friends, and others who have shared this treatment with me. In the joy and anticipation that always follows, I found myself listening to Life’s whispers, reminding me of the opportunities I have within myself today.
Consistency amplifies any action or expression. I knew I would be tangibly welcomed. Realising my anticipation deepened my awareness and appreciation of the expression of kindness and care. It is in the consistency of my response to opportunities to express love, kindness, and care that I reinforce and strengthen the gift to my heart and those around me.
Attention to detail, especially when there is no agenda or expectation, increases the volume and force. The temperature of the towels refreshed my face and my heart perfectly. The fresh smell, devoid of anything artificial or sterile, cleansed me externally and within without accusation or condemnation. I know I had been accepted even as I was changed by the experience. Details make the difference, especially when they are natural and effortless.
Everyone was included. It began with walking in, even for those who were lost. The person ahead of me thought he had arrived at a different restaurant. The extra step of taking the time to go with him outdoors and point the way to a competitor was an example of empathy in action.
When these come together, one feels the message as much as one hears it. One writer’s callout takes me back to consistency, attention, and inclusion. In that case, “Hello to my cousin Herodion. Hello to those Christians from the family of Narcissus.” (Romans 16.11). In my case, the opportunity for action today can be a repeat of the same. Welcome accepted one. You are now with your family.
