How does one trust? I’m in the middle of an evolving situation that will quickly become a life decision point if everything works. There is a large part of me which doesn’t want one opportunity to work because then any decision I make is radically simplified. Even as I reflect on the choices, implications, strengths, weaknesses, risks, and opportunities, I can see this single decision mirroring the choices you and I have everyday. While most days come and go without much thought, the opportunities were there. Ignoring them, simply walking, and struggling to deal with the mundane may have disguised the windows yet I would gently suggest they were and are there. The question is simply the next step. What will it be?
I write and it sounds so easy. Embedded in every step is the simple word, feeling, and emotion for which we use the word “trust”. I trust my guide and directions. I trust my decision making ability. I trust the source of my strength.
I would like to suggest that trust is far bigger, more important, and crucial to our journeys than we realize. It is also the emotion, feeling, and decision we are least likely to make. It simply doesn’t come natural! One knows from ones own journey how easy it is to fail. One understand the temptations to take a difference course which flood every moment of the day and night. One grabbles with the doubts and fears which haunt our souls, especially in the quietness of the dark.
It is interesting to see how Jesus reminded those closes to him of the reason they could trust him. His words highlight the key. “And if I'm on my way to get your room ready, I'll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I'm taking.” (John 14.3, 4)
“You already know.” You understand from experience. You have seen my work yesterday so you can have confidence in this moment. I wonder. Am I taking time to know Divinity, to develop trust?
