Certain things have always been unbelievable. When I was young we used to visit the Kodaikanal hill-station. Kodai was great! You could gaze over the valley, with the temple city of Maduri in the distance. There was a fun golf course and of course a lake where romantic rowing has been well establish for decades.
In the heat of the summer when I was young we would head for Kodai. The trip there was an adventure in itself, yet once we were there among the pine trees, cool air, and gentle breezes; all else was forgotten. We spent our days playing badminton, reflecting on life while playing cards, or hanging out on the lake in wooden row boats. Occasionally we would schedule a mountain hike or something more strenuous, but this was clearly the exception rather than the rule!
The “city” of Kodaikanal wasn’t much at that time. There were no luxury resorts or major investments, so small shops were the order of the day. There was something unusual however, a special white cheese that was made in Kodai. It had a strong flavor as I recall and wasn’t that good eaten “as-is”. However, if you friend the cheese, ah that was what we called good eating! Most people heard this and scoffed but seeing the process through and experiencing the result always converted the skeptic.
There was one problem. Everyone wanted to add oil or butter to the pan when frying; you didn’t need anything! The cheese was oily enough to fry itself. Yet nobody ever believed before seeing it with his or her own eyes. Left to his and her devices, each, one by one, ignored the testimony of others, and added oil to the pan to begin the process.
Ignoring the testimony of others is always dangerous. Accept, experience, and validate. God offers you this today.
“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” (John 1.14)
