“Your love has always been our lives’ foundation, your fidelity has been the roof over our world.” Psalm 89.2
Knowing your lover truly loves you is awesome knowledge. This understanding will sustain you in times of depression, lift you in the morning, and provide the motivation for excelling when you really do not have the care necessary. I wish I could fully understand this mysterious thing called love, especially as it plays itself out in the relationships between people as God intended. My desire and intent is, I believe, to be fully and completely faithful to the gift from my best friend and lover.
The Psalmist refers again to the relationship between God and man in love relationship terms. He looks at the best example of two lovers in love. My own experience, when I get out of the way, mirrors the Psalmist. My lover’s love continues to be the heart of our lives’ foundation. Her fidelity continues to be the roof over our world. She is always there, stubborn and rowdy at times, but always in love. Who she is and what she brings changes who I am in positive ways I could never imagine.
God loves us like this, even better. God’s love will not change no matter how many failures we have. God’s acceptance understands where we are and says that is ok. God’s grace is big enough to deal with our ego, ugliness, and failures. God spends most of his time wrapping his arms of love, acceptance, and grace around us.
It is way past time to stop and listen. I find myself wrapped in cycles of self-pursuit and negatively reacting to the world around us. I catch myself lashing out at the very people I hold dearest to my heart. I see myself absorbed in building my own esteem and status. Is this a familiar ring in your experience?
God offers to each a special love relationship. Understanding is the first step to accepting. Listening to God’s voice and experiencing His presence and touch is awesome. The invitation is wide open.
