The neon sign in the lobby was unexpected. With conservative indicators everywhere, neon, purple, and a pool table in the lobby took everyone in a different direction. I loved the surprise. It created a lightness that, along with shared pictures sent by family and friends on Instagram, took my mood into a place of refreshment and joy.
I often forget how linked my view of the world is to my awareness of hope and possibilities. When I see darkness, hope is often difficult to find. When my fears and doubts are on the right, possibilities are in limited supply. Life appears to pivot on the smallest things, ironically all within my control.
Remembering is a starting point for moving forward. Each photograph was a whispered story of love, relationship, and experience. As I listened, I found myself moving through the past, embraced, accepted, and belonging. It was in this space, that I realised I was standing, bathed in light, and filled with hope for what had been, was today, and could be in the future.
Accepting my present, past, and potential of the future, is a doorway to moving forward with intent. In this space, I hear the cheering voices of those around me. I hear the call to be in the arena. As I accept what has already happened along with what could be, I am filled with courage. With the awareness of the gifts I carry with me, everything is possible.
This moment, the beginning of a new day or whenever I stop to take a breather is where I find life. As I remember and accept, “Then, God willing, I’ll be on my way to you with a light and eager heart, looking forward to being refreshed by your company.” (Romans 15.32) The present is my marker to remember. It is where I speak with care, I act with kindness, and I step towards a better future. I have no idea what follows. I know I will bring memories, awareness, and courage gifted by Divinity and Her children with me into the arena.
