The building came with at least eight names etched on its façade. Except for its labels, the stately building reminded me of others across Europe and the United Kingdom. As I reflected, I found myself wondering about the labels and branding others see on me. I know I wear some by choice. There will be others, visible as they reflect my words and deeds.
Understanding one’s brand can be difficult. I know I hold an idealised version of myself. When confronted, the wings beneath my wings will reveal more than I intend. Today can be my opportunity to look deeply. To see and be aware. To understand and act with intent and purpose. To this end, the whispers I find myself holding onto include the following.
Life can be more than strength and courage. Life includes my heart along with the values and priorities that make a home in this place. As powerful as any dimension can be, a combination that reflects care at its heart is so much more. I believe that my body knows the truth about myself. In the presence of harmony within, I grow stronger, more resilient, and purposeful. Harmony comes with knowing that I am accepted unconditionally with love. When I grasp this, no matter how tenuously, the opportunities to make a difference will emerge.
With harmony within, I always a personalised call to action. Harmony is, for me, linked with accepting Divinity’s gift of family, belonging, and recreation. When I embrace what Divinity is doing for me, there is a calling to help Divinity do it for others. Old words ring out; “Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status.” (Romans 15.1)My life is a building under construction. Divinity herself laid my northeast cornerstone. What follows is my handiwork. Labels can be mirrors that help refine, recreate, and restore. Today is a building opportunity; may it be worthy.
