The dessert line-up was simple, filled with variety, and full of memories. The ways each bite filled one’s heart was beyond measure. I was transported to meals with friends across time. Then and now, each was filled with laughter, smiles, and a reason to celebrate. I know some would only see sugar and unhealthy bites. I saw morsels filled with joy, love, and enjoyment.
As the greyness of the morning mist prevails, until the sun has a chance of burning it away, I know how easy it is to see the day ahead in mono-colour shades. Good standing up to evil, healthy to unhealthy, best versus not so good. I react, experience reminding me that life rarely unfolds in black and white. In the struggle to live a life filled with colours, textures, and forms, Life’s whispers take me to lesson reminders.
Value is created with every experience and outcome. In the immediate, it may not seem to be useful or good. Looking back, one is aware of the lessons that emerged, the memories created, and the bonds of friendship formed. One writer asked his readers to say “Hello to my cousins Andronicus and Junias. We once shared a jail cell. They were believers in Christ before I was. Both of them are outstanding leaders.” (Romans 16.7). I hear joy coming from hardship, appreciation born in surprise, and respect that came with time.
Opportunities are found in every moment, especially the mundane ones when nobody is watching. I wrestle with a single question; “What is the most important thing I can say to myself in the moment that is now?” It is in what I tell myself that I understand the values and priorities closest to my heart. It is in my words that I see kindness realised or lost. It is in my actions that I rediscover the value of caring. Each decision is my expression of what is the most important to me.
I am not worried about eating dessert. Now is the time to reveal care, kindness, and love in all their forms.
