I believe that everyone needs to demonstrate their value to the people around them. This is especially true when you work with others, in any capacity or role. Managers need to give something other than position and power to the group. Team members need to know that they are recognized for being able to do something. While everyone has a role to play, teamwork occurs when there is confidence that every member adds to the overall ability. It is then that the sum is far greater than the parts.
I often find myself wondering what skill someone demonstrated when he or she was “young” that others recognized and valued. Whatever it was my next question is simple; where did it go? Why are they in a position of management and authority? The questions, at least for me, didn’t stop with the people I work with. Everyone in every role came under the same magnifying glass. What gave them authority? What gave them power? Was it just because of an inheritance or did they do something to earn the position.
Given what I know of God I do not believe that God “needed” to earn his position. Just the fact that the Divine defines mercy, love, and compassion is enough, yet God went on and took on even more challenges! As part of his mission, Jesus “made us a Kingdom, Priests for his Father, forever”. (Revelation 1.5)
Part of the success that I have had over the years comes from giving something to each time that was needed. God has given us some of the most critical things that we need; security, acceptance, and roles. We have a home created directly by God. We are ambassadors with a working portfolio, designed and ordained by God. Each of us! All of us! No exceptions.
I look around at the diversity in life and I am in awe. God has targeted each to be part of the overall plan. This plan will last forever and it can be different, even better because of your contribution and mine. Ready?
